    Yin Chakra Meditation
    Yin Yoga & Chakra Meditation
    with Heidi Gabelman
    Saturday, 12:30 - 2:30 pm
    Feb 16 & Mar 23

The study of chakras is an investigation of the wheels of subtle energy that unite our physical, emotional, and thinking bodies. The Yin Yoga and the techniques of surrender can lead us directly to our spine where Chakra wheels spin. Each chakra corresponds to different physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of our self.

In this 2-hour practice we will use Yin Yoga postures to stimulate, awaken, cleanse and meditate on these various chakra wheels. In Yin Yoga we hold different shapes with our body, according to unique structure for 3 to 5 minutes. This gives us the space and time to develop a deep awareness as well as physically affect our fascia resulting in increased mobility, stabilization, and energy flow.

You will leave feeling grounded, connected, and more at ease in your body.

    Heidi Seated Twist

Heidi Gableman, RYT has been teaching yoga for 6 years. Her classes are filled with a little humor and a lot of compassion. She holds a Yin Yoga teacher certification, and is a student of Paul Grilley, the founder of Yin Yoga. Heidi teaches with a functional approach skillfully adapting yoga poses and guiding awareness to suit every student. She teaches classes from the heart creating an uplifting, safe environment for students to begin to expand and explore within their own body and consciousness.

    Pelvic Floor Workshop image

    PELVIC FLOOR YOGA
with Denise Rubinfeld, RYT-200, CNM, MS
    February 17; 12:30 - 3 pm

The organs, muscles, ligaments, bones and energy considered the "pelvic floor" have an incredibly diverse set of responsibilities. This is the seat of breath, posture, elimination, and many other important bodily functions. Yet, many of us don't pay too much attention to the pelvic floor unless something goes awry.

This workshop is an introduction to the pelvic floor for yoga students, teachers, bodyworkers, and anyone else curious about this area of the body. Students will explore basic anatomy and explore breath work that connects us to the pelvic floor. We will explore common misconceptions and explore the alignment of everyday life, i.e. ergonomics off the yoga mat. We will also practice postures that support health and healing for the pelvis. Students will leave with a greater understanding of this complex area of the body, as well as ideas for a practice that can support their own pelvic health.

Please note; while we will review some common pelvic ailments, this is NOT the place to be diagnosed or treated for medical issues. If you have concerns about your own health, please consult with a health professional outside of the workshop.

Folks of all genders and all levels of yoga experience are welcomed.

This Workshop Provides 2.5 Elective Credits Toward Yoga Loka's 300-Hour Teacher Training.

    Denise Rubinfeld

Denise Rubinfeld, RYT-200, CNM, MS took her first yoga class in a sweaty college gymnasium.  Despite the questionable setting, she knew immediately that yoga would play a significant role in her life.  What began as an exercise routine became a tool to center, calm and anchor herself through many life changes.  Denise continued to practice yoga throughout her training as a nurse and midwife.  During the early years of her career, she realized that in addition to practicing yoga for herself, she was using the lessons of yogic practice to assist and educate her midwifery clients.  She decided to deepen her connection to yoga by becoming a teacher.

Denise’s classes focus on energetics and anatomical alignment.  She embraces authenticity, emotional connection, and a healthy dose of humor, and encourages her students to do the same.  She is particularly interested in yoga as a tool to improve pelvic and back health, prepare for birth and parenting, and improve pelvic floor ailments.  She continues to practice midwifery in Reno and enjoys any opportunity to bridge these two worlds.

    5:30-7:00 p.m.

Celebrate the Equinox by challenging yourself to complete a Mala - 108 Sun Salutations.  108 is a very auspicious number in the yogic tradition.  The sun salutation is one of the most effective ways to learn about the vinyasa, binding the breath to the movement.   “The notion of a salutation to the sun is to pay your respects and surrender to the universe.  This can be taken as a metaphor to let go physically – the mind follows as you move ‘inside’ the practice.”

There will be a special crystal singing bowl savasana (relaxation) at the end.

Wise and Skillful Movement - Adapting Your Yoga Practice for All of Life's Challenges
    led by LeeAnn Maynard
    Saturday, June 29
    1:00-5:00 p.m.

The objective of this workshop is to help you access your Inner Teacher and incorporate Mindful Modifications to customize yoga poses that are safe and effective for your body. You will develop deep listening to your body's inner wisdom to bring a wise and compassionate presence to your yoga practice.

We all have different body types and one yoga practice does not suit everyone. As we age, deal with injuries, surgeries and medical conditions we need to find a way to come to our yoga practice with confidence that we won't create a problem, or just give up our practice all together.

The Wise and Skillful Movement workshop will help you develop tools and skills to work with your body as it is right now and learn to adapt, modify and find alternatives to yoga poses to make yoga accessible for a lifetime practice. The goal is to feel confident and take care of your needs when you walk into an unfamiliar yoga class or when you are working with a home practice.

We will address body image issues and the concepts that come from the Media that yoga is for only one type of body that is fit and completely healthy. You can still practice when facing all sorts of challenges by learning Self Inquiry Meditation to stay in tune with your body's needs so that your practice can continue no matter what conditions you are faced with, such as, osteoporosis, heart disease, joint injury or replacement, spinal issues, weight gain and weight loss, etc.

The goal is to make yoga accessible and welcoming for everyone so that we can build a community that supports one another through life's challenges. Great class for yoga teachers! CEU credits available (4 hours).

About Our Time Together Dante wrote about “the love that moves the sun and the other stars” which is quite different than how most of us experience love. The practices of yoga help us see the ways we hold our minds small, our bodies tight, our hearts hardened. As we relax we have the possibility to see love in new, wonderous ways. Not only is this helpful for our wellbeing, but it also benefits a kinder and more peaceful planet.

Join writer and yogini Winifred Wilson in a session of gentle yoga, meditation, and journaling as a practice of self study and self empowerment on the full moon of September 14, 2019. The full moon is believed to be highly energetic so it’s useful to direct our thoughts in a positive way. hold our minds small, our bodies tight, our hearts hardened. This practice highlights and strengthens the fundamental relationship between the heart (yang) and the kidneys (yin) to develop and restore our original vitality. In this way, it is a beneficial self-healing method for auto-immune disorders, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, thyroid disorders and diabetes. The graceful meditative movements of this form are easy to learn for beginners and all levels of Qi explorers.

    Sukha Sunday
Sensing the Wisdom & Vitality of the Subtle and Biological Energy Body

    with Monica Limon, RYT500
    Sunday, October 6; 4:00-6:00pm

“Yoga is the journey of the self.
Through the self. To the self.”
    – The Bhagavad Gita

In this class, we will bring movement into the body (asana) and guide the breath (prana) into the deep connective tissues to nourish our muscles, joints and bones – creating sukha (good space).

From this space of ease, we begin to balance the biological energies of the Ayurvedic doshas (Vata, Kapha, Pitta) with the subtle energy processing centers of the seven Chakras, which align from the base of the spine to the crown of the head to awaken a sense of deep wisdom and vitality that brings us into alignment with our true essence. All levels are welcome.

    Monica Limon, RYT500
Monica blends her love for the ancient healing system of Ayurveda, the dynamic energies of the doshas, the subtle energies of the chakras with the wisdom of yoga to calm the body, clear the mind and lighten the heart. Monica has been practicing yoga since 1999 and teaching since 2010 – she completed her 500 Hour Teacher Training Program with Kim Orenstein at Yoga Loka in Reno, NV.

"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer." - Albert Camus

The winter solstice marks the beginning of winter and is the shortest day and the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere. It celebrates the new Solar year and the return of the sun as every day now we will see more daylight. For time immemorial humans have taken refuge in the darkest, longest night. The time between this longest night and the New Year has traditionally been used to both quiet down and reflect as well as re-vision the awareness of one's self. Because ancient cultures were unaware of the changes in the Earth's position, they feared that the sunlight would never return. To bring it back, they engaged in many celebrations and ceremonies. In fact, there are more ceremonies and "rituals associated with the winter solstice than any other time of year."

This evening will include inspired readings with Taylor Donovan and several crystal bowl performance by Jennifer Shull Donovan.

    GREAT 108
    Sun Salutations
with Jen Donovan, E-RYT, RCYT, RPYT

    Winter Solstice Monday, December 16
    5:30-7:00 p.m.

Celebrate the Solstice by challenging yourself to complete a Mala - 108 Sun Salutations.
